A study developed by researchers of the Teleinformatics Engineering Post-Graduation Program of the Federal University of Ceará received the best paper award from IET Communications, a reference journal in telecommunications supported by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, one of the largest engineering institutions worldwide, counting with more than 168 thousand members in 150 countries.
The work entitled “Massive MIMO: survey and future research topics” was also the most downloaded article in the latest edition of the journal, amplifying the citation potential of this UFC’s study in other researches. The authors are Prof. André de Almeida, Prof. Tarcisio Maciel and Prof. João Cesar Mota, members of the Wireless Telecommunications Research Group (GTEL), together with Dr. Daniel Araújo, PPGETI’s Ph.D. alumni, and Prof. Minho Jo, from Korea University.
The article presents a survey on multiple-input multiple-output transmission technologies, which employ a large number of antennas (tens to hundreds) at the transmitter/receiver. This technology is kwnon as “massive MIMO” and promises capacity and spectral efficiency gains when compared to current mobile network technologies.
According to Prof. André de Almeida, massive MIMO systems will be part of the future of the wireless communications, inclusive of the 5th Generation (5G) of wireless network. The article presents an overview of the massive MIMO, discussing the involved challenges and pointing out themes for future research.
ABOUT GTEL – GTEL was founded in year 2000 with the mission of developing wireless communication technology through academic and applied research. Its works always aim to optimize mobile telephony services leading to lower costs and higher reliability and security, as well as the integration of technologies.
